7.8 magnitude earthquake struck the area between the capital Kathmandu and Pokhara city, said the US Geological Survey. Tremors felt across the region with a greater loss of life in India, Bangladesh, Tibet and Mount Everest.
The government has declared Nepal as a state of emergency and affected areas.
National police spokesman, told the World Trend News that thousand people died in the earthquake and more than 1,700 were injured, at least 539 people died in the Kathmandu valley, he said.
