The order of the Knights Templar were persecuted by the Catholic Inquisition and many of its members were arrested a day like today, in France, in the year 1307. It is said that this historical fact superstition and fear of Friday the 13th arises.
The Order of the Poor Knights of Christ and the Temple of Solomon, whose members were known as the Knights Templar, founded at the end of the decade of 1110 by nine French knights, was one of the most powerful Christian military orders of the Middle Ages.
Adopted by the Catholic Church in 1129, it grew rapidly in size and power, remaining active for almost two centuries. They are known for their involvement in the Crusades, military campaigns with the aim of restoring the Christian control of the Holy Land; and to create new financial techniques, considered the antecedent of banks.
On Friday October 13, 1307, a large number of Templars were arrested, tortured and burned at the stake. In 1312, the order was dissolved two years later, on March 18, 1314, the Grand Master of the Order, Jacques de Molay, was executed.
The sudden elimination of the Order of the Knights Templar remains a mystery until today.
