Wholesale is the presence of virtual social networks in the lives of people, coexistence between strangers in public places is still by far the biggest stage of encounters between the inhabitants of large cities. Science has recently doomed to reveal some points of one of the great enigmas of being urban contemporary: communication with strangers.

On the one hand, scientists at a university in Chicago have explored the reasons why human-members of a species eminently social tend to be ignored; and they found that this is due to a cruel paradox: although most people prefer to connect with other unknown persons, when traveling around town or use public spaces, most assumed that "others" do not want to make contact.

Once settled this prejudice, another study comes to deepen a key point for dialogue between strangers, which is when the person is attractive.

The study, conducted by psychologists at the University of Alaska, about 600 volunteers proposed three distinct ways to start a conversation: the "catch phrase", that sort of inventive and daring line, coined by the popular knowledge or spontaneity; "open question", referring to the context and can not be answered yes or no, like "what you think of this band?"; and "direct phrase" style: "I like you, I can invite you a drink?". The result differs by gender: men prefer to receive direct questions, and women, open questions, as the researchers explain, provide a context less threatening for the person who receives it.

What is significant is that, for both men and women, the "catch phrase" has been considered as the worst option, which leads to rethink the reason for its good reputation and its persistence over time.
