The dancer-spy Mata Hari was arrested as he returned to Paris after a mission, on 13 February 1917. He was born in Leeuwarden, The Netherlands, August 7, 1876 under the name of Margaretha Geertruida Zelle.
At 18 years old she married a much older than her Dutch military, and settled with him in Java, Indonesia. There he had two children and became familiar with Javanese culture and the different techniques of oriental dance. After the failure of her marriage, Margaretha returned to Europe and settled in Paris, where he took the name of Mata Hari and started working as an erotic dancer.
Thus he began his career in espionage: military close contact with politicians and provided lots of information about their lives and secrets and, therefore, a great power. In 1914, at the beginning of the First World War, Mata Hari decided to share their information and offer their services to Eugen Kraemer, head of German espionage.
In 1916, Mata Hari was forced to offer as a double spy for France as allies agents, especially Ladoux, a French spy, the closely watched. However, Mata Hari was in contact with the German embassy. This condition triple spy earned his arrest on February 13, 1917. The seductive dancer was accused of espionage, brought to trial and sentenced to death.
